Residing in California Armo’s work is a collaboration of  typographic elements and exploration with graffiti structure  and form. By looking at graffiti and typography by studying their  visual commonalities as lettering, much can be discovered  and revealed. As graffiti matures and diversifies, more and  more of it’s aesthetics filters into graphic design, and it has  gained acceptance in popular culture at large.

Now comfortably accepted as a contemporary mode of  communication. While graffiti has appeal due to its illegality and  excitement, as typography is omnipresent in today’s PC-based  information society. Armo is striving to blur the line between typography  and graffiti striving to find relationships between the forms of  communication.

I stumble across welovetypography.com a few weeks ago and it has quickly become my go-to source for typographic inspiration. The site is minimal and super clean, so it doesn’t get in the way of the work that is displayed.

There are to many to mention, awe inspiring art pieces as well as simple, typographic studies are all displayed on the same level, they don’t play favorites.

Typography nerds unite! This is our time.

Alex Pardee – Frolicking Nighmares

Alex Pardee’s new solo show “Frolicking Nightmares” opens August 7th at Andenken Gallery in Denver, CO.

Frolicking Nightmares is Alex’s take on beasts that dwell in a sexier dimension. It features horrid, misfigured bodies in supermodel poses, twisted flesh selling products that they never show, classic. Once again, I can’t go and I couldn’t afford to buy if I could go, so if you can make it, please do.

There are also 12 mini-paintings that are part of a series called “Bonerville“. Pac-Man ghosts with boners. Awesome.

Boxi – To Die For

Boxi’s latest work, done in Athens, is entitled “To die for”. It is part of the 2nd Athens biennial “HEAVEN”.

“It’s an attempt to portray the blind purity of love, and a wall of belief that can end it all. The work is a reflection upon the sad fate of two young lovers who were killed because of their love.”

The work consists of 11 hand cut life-sized greyscale layers of the stencil. To see how the piece was done watch the video below:

Banksy vs. Bristol Museum

A burned-out ice-cream van is among 100 works Banksy has installed at Bristol’s museum, replacing many of the museum’s regular artifacts.

Banksy said: “This is the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off.”

Staged in the council-owned City Museum and Art Gallery, Banksy v Bristol Museum features animatronics, installations and a sensory display.

“This show is my vision of the future, to which many people will say: ‘You should have gone to Specsavers’”, Banksy added.

The exhibition and its location have been a closely-guarded secret since October, with just a couple of museum officials in the loop.

“I think we may have dragged them down to our level rather than being elevated to theirs,” said Banksy of the subterfuge involved in staging the show in his home city.

Alex Pardee is my favorite artist, hands down. He just had an solo opening in Portland called Self Portraits Of Other People, that due to the weather was not attended very heavily.

Instead of crying about it (like I would have), Alex opens up the show for everyone to purchase online. Awesome. If I could afford this stuff I would be on it. I’m ballin’ on a budget right now trying to get some stuff in order.

So, if you are in the market for some truly spectacular art, jump on over to his website for a look at all the offerings or just download the Price list and go at it. If you buy something, don’t tell me, I’ll be extremely jealous.

Banksy’s Summer Art Show.

It looks like UK street artist Banksy will be opening another interesting exhibition to kick off the Summer. Other than a date of June 13th, there is no official information regarding the content or location of the show, so stay tuned as further details are revealed.
